More Information

What is Yasmin?

Two female sex hormones are combined in Yasmin, a combination birth control pill: progestin (drospirenone) and estrogen (ethinyl estradiol). With this product, pregnancy is avoided. Also, it reduces blood loss, uncomfortable periods, and the chance of developing ovarian cysts. It also helps to regularize your cycles.

Sexually transmitted illnesses like gonorrhea, chlamydia, and HIV are not prevented by Yasmin for you or your partner.

How do the Yasmin tablets function?

Yasmin mostly functions by stopping an egg from releasing during your menstrual period. In an effort to hinder sperm from reaching an egg and stop fertilization from happening, it thickens the vaginal fluid. Additionally, it modifies the uterine lining to inhibit the attachment of a fertilized egg, which would otherwise exit the body.

How Does Yasmin work in the Body?

Here are some advantages of using Yasmin:

  • Yasmin stops an egg from releasing during the menstrual period.
  • Yasmin thickens the vaginal fluid in an attempt to keep sperm from attaching themselves to an egg, preventing pregnancy.
  • Yasmin alters the uterine lining to hinder the attachment of a fertilized egg.
How should Yasmin's pills be used?

It is crucial that you read the patient information sheet included in the Yasmin medication package before beginning to take the tablets. It offers crucial details on how often to take your medications and what to do in the event that you forget a dose. If you are unsure about how to take the pills properly, ask your doctor or family planning nurse to clarify.

You can take Yasmin pills orally, with or without food. Usually, one dose is given each day. To help you remember to take a dose, take the tablet at about the same time every day. To lessen nausea and upset stomach, take the medication at bedtime or after your evening meal.

To discover the first tablet, follow the package directions. Begin with the first tablet in the pack and proceed in the prescribed order. Do not skip any doses, as pregnancy is more likely if you miss a pill, begin a new pack late, or take your pill at a later time of day than normal.

When is the best time to take Yasmin tablets?

There are 21 active pills in the container, and after that, you have seven days to skip taking any Yasmin medications. The third day following the last active pill of the cycle is when you should anticipate getting your period. Start a new pack the following day, whether or not you are on your period, you have finished the last of the reminder pills, or you have not taken any for seven days. See your physician if you haven't received your period.

Starting on Yasmin

Take the first pill in the pack on the first Sunday after the start of your menstrual cycle or on the first day of your period if this is your first time taking the drug and you are not switching from another hormonal birth control method. Take the pills on Sunday if that's when your period starts. Use a condom or another non-hormonal birth control method for the first seven days of the cycle to prevent conception until the medicine has had time to take effect. You won't need to use a backup birth control technique for the first week if you begin taking the pills on the first day of your menstrual cycle.
