Microgynon and other combined oral contraceptives function by interfering with your regular menstrual cycle. The regular menstrual cycle of a woman is typified by fluctuations in sex hormone levels. Hormones trigger the ovaries to release an egg, preparing the lining of the womb for a potential pregnancy.

What Is Microgynon?

Oral birth control in the form of the combined oral contraceptive pill, also known as "the pill" or the birth control pill, is intended for female users. It consists of a progestogen and an oestrogen together. To avoid getting pregnant, a woman takes it.

The female sex hormones progestogen and oestrogen are both present in microgynon. The hormones prevent you from becoming pregnant by blocking the release of an egg from your ovaries, thickening the fluid in your cervix to make it harder for sperm to enter the womb, and stopping the lining of your womb from thickening sufficiently to support the growth of an egg.

A 21-day pill is called Microgynon. One pill must be taken for twenty-one days, then abstained from for seven days.

How Does Microgynon Work?

Ethinylestradiol and levonorgestrel, the synthetic equivalents of the female sex hormones progesterone and oestrogen found naturally in the body, are the two active constituents in Microgynon tablets.

Your regular menstrual cycle is overridden by combined oral contraceptives, such as Microgynon. Changing levels of sex hormones are typically associated with a woman's menstrual cycle. Womb lining is prepared for a potential pregnancy by the hormones that trigger the release of an egg from the ovaries. The shedding of the uterine lining occurs on a monthly basis at the end of each menstrual cycle. Suppose an egg has not been fertilised. Therefore, the hormone levels drop.

The monthly hormone dose in the pill prevents an egg from maturing and being released from the ovaries by tricking your body into believing that ovulation has already occurred.

Additionally, the hormones thicken the womb's neck mucus, which makes it more difficult for sperm to pass through the vagina and fertilise an egg. Additionally, they alter the lining of the womb, making it less favorable for the implantation of a fertilised egg.

What advantages does using Microgynon offer?

Taking Microgynon has the following advantages:

  • When used appropriately, it is one of the most dependable reversible forms of birth control.
  • It does not prevent someone from having intercourse.
  • Menstruation becomes lighter, more regular, and less painful as a result of it.
  • With premenstrual symptoms, it might be helpful.

You are not protected against sexually transmitted illnesses by microgynon.

How is Microgynon used?

Microgynon Tablet

Since Microgynon is a monophasic tablet, the hormone content of each tablet is the same. One tablet of Microgynon should be used daily for 21 days, interspersed with seven days off from medication. Hormone levels in your drop over the seven-day hiatus, causing a withdrawal bleeding that resembles your regular menstrual cycle. Even if you continue to bleed after seven days without taking pills, you will begin the following pack.

The days of the week are marked on a calendar pack that contains the Microgynon tablets. This will assist you in remembering to take the medication daily for the next three weeks and then take a week off after that. If you don't do anything that will reduce the pill's effectiveness—like becoming sick or taking other medications—you will begin the following packet on schedule.

To aid in your memory, try taking the pills at the same time every day. It is recommended to take each tablet with a drink, whether or not food is present.

The best time to take Microgynon pills is first thing on the first day of your menstrual cycle. This will provide you with adequate protection against becoming pregnant right away. Using an additional method of contraception is not necessary.

On the twenty-first day following delivery, if you are not breastfeeding, you can begin taking the pill. Without the need for any kind of birth control, you are protected right away.

For the first 21 days after starting Microgynon, one tablet should be taken daily, followed by a seven-day break from taking pills.

Give a list of all the medications you have taken or are taking to your doctor. In the same vein, before taking any new medicine while taking Microgynon, see your doctor.
