Logynon: What is it?

These hormonal contraceptive tablets are called Logynon tablets. Levonorgestrel, a synthetic progesterone, and ethynylestradiol, a synthetic oestrogen, make up the two active ingredients in these combined contraceptive pills.

Menstrual bleeding becomes lighter, more regular, and less painful after taking Logynon. This drug is occasionally administered to women who experience painful, heavy, or irregular menstruation.

How does Logynon work?

The synthetic forms of progesterone and oestrogen, which are naturally occurring female sex hormones, are found in Logynon pills. Oral contraceptives with combined effects, like Logynon, function by suppressing the regular menstrual cycle. Every month during a woman's menstrual cycle, her sex hormone levels fluctuate. During ovulation, hormones trigger the ovaries to release an egg, preparing the lining of the womb for the potential of pregnancy. If the egg is not fertilised at the conclusion of each menstrual cycle, the hormone levels drop, which results in the monthly menstrual period—the shedding of the uterine lining.

The hormones that the pill delivers on a regular basis primarily trick the body into thinking that ovulation has already taken place. By doing this, the ovaries are unable to mature and release an egg each month.

Additionally, the hormones thicken the womb's natural mucus around the neck, which makes it more difficult for sperm to pass through the vaginal canal, enter the womb, and fertilise an egg. Additionally, the hormones alter the womb's lining, rendering it unsuitable for the implantation of a fertilised egg.

What advantages does using Logynon offer?

Logynon helps avoid getting pregnant. The drug fools the body into thinking that ovulation has taken place by adding synthetic progesterone and oestrogen, which stops the ovaries from maturing and releasing an egg. Logynon works well to thicken the natural mucus around the womb's neck, which hinders sperm from passing from the vagina into the womb, even if an egg is fertilised and discharged by the ovaries.

How is Logynon used?

The 21-day pack of Logynon is a triphasic pill that comes in three different sorts of tablets, each with a slightly different hormone dosage. Thirty micrograms of ethynylestradiol and 50 micrograms of levonorgestrel are found in six light brown tablets, 40 micrograms of ethynylestradiol and 75 micrograms of levonorgestrel are found in five white tablets, and 30 micrograms of ethynylestradiol and 125 micrograms of levonorgestrel are found in ten ochre tablets.

The prescribed order for taking the tablets in the Logynon pack must be followed. The light brown pills with the number "1" on them should be used first. For a duration of 21 days, one tablet should be taken daily, followed by a seven-day respite from pill consumption. Hormone levels in the blood fall during this gap, causing withdrawal bleeding that resembles a typical menstrual period. If you are still bleeding or not, you should begin taking the next pack as soon as the seven days without taking any pills are up.

As long as you started taking the pack on schedule and took the 21 pills as directed, you would remain protected against getting pregnant even during your week without pills.

If you take the medication at the same time each day, it will be easier for you to remember to take your dose. Every tablet should be taken orally and completely absorbed with a beverage. The medication can be taken with or without food.

It is not necessary for you to take any other kind of birth control while taking Logynon. You won't be protected against pregnancy if you start taking the tablets on the fifth day of your period if you have a very short menstrual cycle.

If the doctor is quite certain that you are not pregnant, you can begin taking this medication at any point during your cycle. Any other point in your cycle will not prevent you from becoming pregnant if you start the pill. For the first seven days after starting the pill, you may need to utilise additional types of contraception, including a condom.

On the twenty-first day following delivery, if you are not breastfeeding, you can begin taking the pill. During the initial seven days, use additional contraception, such as a condom.

You can start taking the pill right away to prevent yourself from getting pregnant if you miscarry or have an abortion before 24 weeks of pregnancy. You should use supplemental contraception for the seven days that you take the pill if you start taking it more than seven days after an abortion or miscarriage.

Even if you have to take two pills at once, take the missing pill as soon as you remember if you start the pack of pills one day later or forget to take a pill. Then, proceed with taking the remaining pack in the prescribed order. You don't need to use additional contraception because you are still protected against getting pregnant.

You will not be protected against pregnancy if you start the fresh pack two or more days late or if you neglect to take the two pills. You will need to take two tablets for the day: the pill for the day and the last pill you skipped. Put the other pill you missed out of your mind. After that, take the remaining medications in the pack on time. You should abstain from sexual activity and avoid using extra-barrier methods of contraception, such as condoms.

After your final missed dose, if there are less than seven pills left in the pack, finish the pack and begin a new pack right away, skipping the seven-day pill-free days.

Within two hours of taking a tablet, vomiting may occur, which could prevent the medication from entering the bloodstream completely. As soon as you feel better, take another medication, and then take the following one at your regular time. You'll still be shielded from becoming pregnant.

You cannot avoid sexually transmitted illnesses using logynon. To prevent sexually transmitted illnesses, you must use condoms.

First-time Logynon users may experience irregular menstrual cycles, including spotting, breakthrough bleeding, or skipped periods. Should you continue to bleed, see your physician. Use a pregnancy test before beginning the following month's contraceptive cycle if you have not experienced a withdrawal bleed for two consecutive months.

What is the proper Logynon dosage?

For twenty-one days, take one Logynon tablet daily. After that, take a seven-day break before beginning another pack.
